Bee Cozy Checklist
APPLYING THE BEE COZY
Put the Bee Cozy on your hive once temperatures are consistently below cluster point of 50°F(10°C).
REMOVING THE BEE COZY
Take the Bee Cozy off your hive when temperatures are consistently above cluster point of 50°F(10°C), and possible snap freezes have passed.
THE BEE COZY FIT
Once the Bee Cozy has fully expanded, it should be snug to hive with some give around the sides and tighter to the corners. Keep the wrap seam to the front; the seam creates a tunnel opening where the top and bottom hive entrances are.
PREVENTING MOISTURE
Top and bottom entrances allow moisture to escape from the hive. Tip colonies forward so any moisture drains away from the entrance. Place a moisture absorbent material such as newspaper below the Inner Cover Pad.
INNER COVER PAD
Inner Cover Pads are designed to go inside a deep inner cover or shallow super. Leave the plastic cover on. Tuck in excess plastic.
Bee Cozy Steps
1. CREATE A BOTTOM OPENING ON THE HIVE
Place a 2 inch nail above the entrance reducer to lift the wrap up, which creates a bottom entrance for the bees.
2. TIP YOUR COLONIES FORWARD
Tip your colonies forward slightly with shims to allow moisture to run away from the entrance.
3. ROLL AIR OUT OF BEE COZY WRAP
Roll excess air out of the Bee Cozy so it can slide over the colony easier. This helps to prevent tears while applying.
4. KEEP THE WRAP SEAM TO THE FRONT OF HIVE
Keep the wrap seam to the front of the hive. Top and bottom hive entrances are required. Allow 1 day for wrap to fully inflate after storage.
5. PLACE INNER COVER PAD*
Place Inner Cover Pad inside a deep inner cover or shallow super.
*Inner Cover Pads sold separately
6. UNWRAP, COMPRESS & STORE
Carefully remove. Compress air out and store in a dry location.
Maximize your honey crop by winterizing your colonies. Healthy, wrapped colonies start off stronger in the spring and produce up to 2X the amount of honey compared to other colonies
